Drivers and licensed guides

Greece Private Tours runs its tours with its own drivers on Santorini and in Athens: they drive, wait at every stop and give practical orientation, in English, for the hours you book. Guiding inside museums and archaeological sites is reserved by Law 5121/2024 to state-licensed guides, so a guide is a second person, booked on request and quoted separately.

What our drivers do

They meet you where the tour page says, holding a board with your name at a port or an airport; they drive the route printed on the page in the order you agree in the morning; they wait with the vehicle at every stop, for as long as you take; and they tell you the practical things on the way, where the entrance is, how long you have, where the toilets are, which lane climbs. On a cruise day they watch the clock with you and end the day with the margin we keep before all-aboard. They speak English, and the vehicle has bottled water in it.

What they do not do

Guide inside a site or a museum. In Greece that work is reserved to state-licensed guides registered with the Ministry of Tourism, under Law 5121/2024, and a tourism business that lets anyone else do it is fined; our drivers stay outside the gate and pick the day up when you come out. The driver-or-guide guide has the articles, the sites on our tours where the rule applies and the one exception the European court allows.

How a licensed guide is added

Write it in the message of the booking request, with the site and the language you want; the office books a guide from the register, quotes the fee with the day and confirms both by email before you travel. The guide’s fee is separate from the driver’s, and no rate for it is printed on this site yet. At the sites that need a timed ticket, the Acropolis, Akrotiri, Delphi, the guide’s hours are set around your slot.

Where they drive

On Santorini, where the company started in 1995, and in Athens, from where they also run the day trips to Cape Sounion, Ancient Corinth, Delphi, the Argolis and Meteora; the Santorini page and the Athens page list the tours, and the private driver page covers a car by the hour. Elsewhere in Greece we quote a driver only when we have one to send.

Who they are

This page shows no names and no photographs yet. When a driver’s own photograph and a few lines about them are added by the office, with the driver’s consent, they appear here; until then we would rather show nobody than a stock picture of somebody else. The person who answers your request is named on the about page, and what guests give at the end of a day is the subject of the tipping guide.
