What is it, and what is it not?

A vehicle and one of our own Athens drivers for the hours you book, with the route yours: the sites, a museum, a restaurant, the coast or a town beyond the city, in the order you like and for as long as you like at each, the driver waiting at every stop. It is not a guided tour, because guiding inside archaeological sites and museums is reserved to state-licensed guides under Law 5121/2024; a licensed guide is added on request and quoted separately, and the driver-or-guide guide has the law and the sites it covers. It is not a transfer either: the hours include the waiting, which is the point of them.

How are the hours counted, and what does it cost?

The hours run from the pickup to the drop-off, waiting included. The rate is per hour, from 50 EUR for a sedan, as the ticket above prints it from the office’s rate card and the same hourly from-price as on Santorini; the office confirms the total by email for your hours and the vehicle your party needs, and the request form never computes a total for this service, so you see the figure before you commit to anything. For a day with stops from our Athens list, the build-your-day page prints the price at once, hours times the rate of your vehicle. Nothing is paid on the site. The vehicle follows your party: a sedan for up to three guests, a minivan for four to seven, a minibus for eight to nineteen and a coach beyond that. Entrance fees, meals and a licensed guide are paid on the day.

Three sample days: 4, 5 and 8 hours

Drive times are routed on OpenStreetMap without traffic and start at Syntagma Square; from a hotel elsewhere or from the cruise terminals the first leg changes.

  • 4 hours, the centre: 7 min and 3 km to the Acropolis with as long as you want inside, 8 min and 2.1 km to the Temple of Olympian Zeus, 3 min and 1.2 km back to Syntagma for the guard: the road of our highlights tour with the minutes set by you.
  • 5 hours, the coast: 1 h 14 min and 67 km down the coast road to the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion and the same road back, with a swim or a seaside lunch on the way: about two and a half hours of driving and the rest at the temple and the sea.
  • 8 hours, the whole city: the route of our full day, the Acropolis, the Olympieion, the stadium, Syntagma, Plaka and Lycabettus, with 64 min of driving from the cruise terminals and the hours at each stop yours; or the canal and Ancient Corinth, 1 h 12 min and 78 km out and 23 min and 14.3 km between the two, with the Acropolis on the way back.

What does the driver do while we are inside?

Waits with the vehicle, however long you take. At the Acropolis the driver drops you as close to the entrance as the road allows and names the spot to come back to; the ticket, 30 EUR (checked 8 Oct 2026, hh.gr), is paid at the gate for a chosen date and a one-hour slot, the way up is a climb in walking shoes with a lift for visitors with mobility difficulties by arrangement with the guards’ office, and the toilets beside the main entrance are the ones to use. The Olympieion is level for the most part and has accessible toilets. For the shade at midday and the steps in Plaka, ask your driver; no official page states them. Lunch happens wherever you decide, in Plaka on our full day, and the driver waits through it.

Where does the day start?

In the lobby of your Athens hotel at the agreed time, or outside your ship’s terminal at the Piraeus cruise terminals, where the driver holds a sign with your name; cruise guests book the hours their call allows, and the day ends 90 minutes before all-aboard, as the Piraeus page explains. Child seats are free on request, a folding wheelchair travels in the boot, and the vehicles have no lift or ramp, so tell us what you need when you book. The Athens page has the fixed tours beside this service, and the custom tour form takes a day with named stops. For the same service across Greece, see private driver in Greece; for what guests give at the end of a day, the tipping guide.

Driver or licensed guide

In Greece, guiding visitors in museums and archaeological sites is the work of state-qualified guides registered with the Ministry of Tourism (Law 5121/2024, Articles 33, 34 and 40). Our drivers are not guides: they drive, wait and give practical orientation on the road. We can book a licensed guide for you on request and quote the guide separately. Questions guests ask

How much does it cost per hour?

From the figure on the ticket, per hour, for a sedan with up to three guests; a minivan, a minibus or a coach costs more per hour, and the office confirms the total for your hours and your vehicle by email. Nothing is paid on the site, and the request form never computes a total for this service; the Build your own day page prices a day in Athens at once, hours times the rate of the vehicle your party takes.

Can the driver guide us inside the Acropolis?

No: guiding inside sites and museums is reserved to state-licensed guides by law. The driver drops you at the entrance, waits and tells you where to come back to; a licensed guide is added on request and quoted separately.

Do you do airport pickups?

Not yet as a start point for this service: the day starts at your hotel or at the Piraeus cruise terminals.

Which vehicle?

A sedan for up to three guests, a minivan for four to seven, a minibus for eight to nineteen and a coach beyond; the make is confirmed with the booking.

Can we go out of Athens?

Yes: the sample days include Sounion and Corinth. For Delphi, the Argolis or Meteora the fixed day trips are the better frame, and the custom tour form takes anything else.
