How do the eight hours go?

Six stops with 64 min of driving in all without traffic, routed on OpenStreetMap from the cruise terminals at Piraeus, and a 9:00 start suggested to miss the morning traffic. 19 min and 13.4 km to the Acropolis, two hours; 8 min and 2.1 km to the Temple of Olympian Zeus, half an hour; 3 min and 2.1 km to the Panathenaic Stadium for a 10-minute photo stop; 3 min and 1.8 km to Syntagma Square, 20 minutes for the Parliament and the changing of the guard; 4 min and 1.4 km to Plaka, two and three quarter hours for the walk, lunch and free time; 7 min and 3.1 km up Lycabettus Hill, half an hour for the view over the city; then 20 min and 15.2 km back to the ship. That is six and a quarter hours at the stops, with about 40 minutes in hand. From a hotel in the centre the first leg is 7 min and 3 km, and the day ends at the hotel.

The Acropolis: two hours, the ticket and the climb

Two hours is enough for the Propylaia, the Parthenon, the Erechtheion and the slopes without hurrying. The ticket is 30 EUR (checked 8 Oct 2026, hh.gr) full and 15 EUR (checked 8 Oct 2026, hh.gr) reduced, paid at the gate or bought online for a chosen date and a one-hour entry slot, used once; book the first slot after your pickup or let us name it in the confirmation. It is a climb on foot in walking shoes, with a lift for visitors with mobility difficulties from a separate entrance north of the main one, by arrangement with the guards’ office; the tour as a whole is not suitable for wheelchair users. Toilets are beside the main entrance; the ones inside were closed for renovation on 21 September 2026.

The Olympieion, the stadium and the guard

The Temple of Olympian Zeus has its own ticket, 20 EUR (checked 8 Oct 2026, hh.gr) full and 10 EUR (checked 8 Oct 2026, hh.gr) reduced, timed like the Acropolis; it is wheelchair accessible for the most part through the main entrance on Vasilissis Olgas Avenue, with accessible toilets, and the area around Hadrian’s Gate was closed during the avenue works by a notice of 1 April 2026. The Panathenaic Stadium is a photo stop from outside, ten minutes. At Syntagma the changing of the guard by the Evzones is watched from the square in front of the Parliament, with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier beside it, and there is nothing to pay.

Plaka: lunch and free time

Two and three quarter hours below the Acropolis for a walk through the old quarter, lunch in a taverna at your own expense and time of your own; the driver names the spot to come back to and waits with the vehicle. If you would rather spend that time in a museum, the Acropolis Museum or the National Archaeological Museum can replace the free time: say so when you book, and the museum ticket is paid at its door.

Driver or licensed guide?

The driver drives, waits at every stop and gives practical orientation; the driver does not enter the sites, because guiding inside archaeological sites and museums is the work of state-licensed guides under Law 5121/2024. A licensed guide for the Acropolis, or for the whole day, is booked in advance on request and quoted separately.

Steps, shade and toilets

The Acropolis is the one long climb, with its lift for those who need it; the Olympieion is level for the most part; Lycabettus is a drive up. Toilets: beside the Acropolis’s main entrance, inside the Olympieion, and in Plaka where you eat. Shade: no official page states it for any stop, so ask your driver, and carry the bottled water from the vehicle.

What does it cost, and where do we meet?

700 EUR per group for up to three guests in a sedan and 800 EUR for four to seven in a minivan, as the ticket above prints them from the office’s rate card; from eight guests the rate is per person in a minibus, 100 EUR each. The booking form shows the total for your number, and the office confirms it by email before anything is paid. Extra and paid on the day: the two tickets, lunch, a museum if you add one, a licensed guide if you ask for one.
