Private tours in Rhodes

ΡόδοςRhodessaid “RO-thos”

Greece Private Tours runs three private tours on Rhodes with its own driver: Rhodes town and Filerimos in 4 hours, Lindos and the Old Town in 5, and the island in 8 with Kamiros and lunch by the sea at Lindos. Each is priced per group, starts at the cruise port or your hotel, and prints its routed drive times and the official tickets of its stops.

Sunset in Rhodes today, 29 October: 17:14Office closed now, opens at 08:00 Athens time (every day).

What does a private tour of Rhodes cost?

Three tours, one rule: the price is for the vehicle and the driver, per group and never per person, and the entrance tickets are paid at the gates. The 4-hour town and Filerimos tour follows the standard 4-hour rate: 300 EUR for up to three guests in a sedan, 400 EUR for four to seven in a minivan, which comes to 100 EUR a head for four. The 5-hour Lindos tour reads the 5-hour table the same way: 400 EUR and 500 EUR. The 8-hour island day reads the 8-hour table: 700 EUR for up to three guests and 800 EUR for four to seven, confirmed by the office by email before anything is paid. The tickets of the stops are the Ministry’s: 20 EUR (checked 14 Oct 2026, hh.gr) for the Palace of the Grand Master, 20 EUR (checked 14 Oct 2026, hh.gr) for the acropolis of Lindos, 10 EUR (checked 14 Oct 2026, hh.gr) for Kamiros and 10 EUR (checked 14 Oct 2026, hh.gr) for the site on Filerimos hill, each with the date we read it; the acropolis on Monte Smith is free. The price guide prints the whole rate card and the fees guide every ticket we know.

Driver or licensed guide inside the Palace and at Lindos?

Every ticketed stop on Rhodes is a site of the Ministry of Culture, and inside a site or a museum guiding is reserved to state-licensed guides by Law 5121/2024. Our driver drives, waits at each stop with the vehicle and gives practical orientation on the way in: where the ticket desk is, how long the walk up takes, where to meet again. The driver does not walk you round the Palace’s exhibitions or the sanctuary of Athena Lindia, and we never present a driver as a guide. If you want the stories told inside, a licensed guide is booked ahead on request and quoted with the day; in the lanes of the Old Town, which are a town and not a site, the driver’s orientation and your own pace are usually enough. The driver-or-guide guide explains the rule and what it changes in the price.

Four hours, five or eight: which Rhodes tour?

It turns on one choice: Lindos or not. The island’s second great site lies 67 minutes and 50.2 km from the cruise port by road, routed on OpenStreetMap without traffic, and the Ministry’s own portal counts an hour by car from the city; a day that includes it is a 5-hour day at the least. The 4-hour tour stays within 15 km of the port: 30 minutes at the ancient acropolis on Monte Smith, 45 at Filerimos hill above Ialysos, 90 on foot in the Old Town, 52 minutes of driving in all. The 5-hour tour drives to Lindos for 95 minutes and comes back for an hour at the Palace, 137 minutes at the wheel. The 8-hour day takes the west coast first, Filerimos and Kamiros, reaches Lindos for 140 minutes with lunch, and ends in the Old Town, 202 minutes of driving. Each page prints its route strip with the legs and the minutes planned at every stop.

When are the Palace, Lindos and the other sites open?

All five stops keep the Ministry’s pattern: from April to October open daily into the evening, the closing hour stepping down through September and October; from November to March 08:30 to 15:30 and closed every Tuesday; the last admission 20 minutes before closing; closed on 1 January, 25 March, 1 May, Easter Sunday and 25 and 26 December; free on 6 March, 18 April, 18 May, the last weekend of September, 28 October and the first and third Sunday of each month from November to March. The Palace of the Grand Master is the summer exception, open until 20:00 every day from April to the end of October, and the walk on the fortification walls, with its own ticket, opens only in those months, Monday to Friday at midday. The acropolis on Monte Smith is free, with summer hours and free access in winter. The two tables below are the Palace’s and Lindos’s, as the portal prints them; Kamiros and Filerimos follow the Lindos table to the minute, and each tour page prints the table of its own stops.

Where does the driver meet us on Rhodes?

At the passengers’ exit of the cruise terminal, or at your hotel door. Cruise ships berth alongside at Rhodes: the port’s characteristics page lists six quays, one passenger terminal and no anchorage, and the Municipal Port Fund that runs the port names the Tourist Port at Akti Sachtouri as its cruise port, with a waiting area, a duty-free shop, an information desk and parking for excursion buses. The driver stands at the terminal’s passenger exit with a sign with your name; the Fund publishes no berth for a call, so we go by your ship’s name and times. The Palace of the Grand Master is 2 min and 2 km from the quay by road, Monte Smith 6 min and 4 km, Filerimos 21 min and 14 km, Kamiros 43 min and 34 km and Lindos 1 h 7 min and 50 km. From a hotel anywhere on the island the first leg follows the address, and a hotel in Lindos turns the 5-hour day round. The cruise port page has the port’s facts with their sources and dates, and the length of call each tour needs.

Is Lindos worth the drive from Rhodes town?

The acropolis is why most guests ask for it, and the figures are plain: an hour by car from the city on the Ministry’s portal, 67 minutes from the cruise port as OpenStreetMap routes it, then 10 minutes on foot from the village to the gate by the same portal. On top, in the portal’s account, stand the Doric temple of Athena Lindia of the 4th century BC, the propylaea with their monumental staircase, the Hellenistic stoa 87 metres long with 42 columns, and the walls the Knights Hospitaller strengthened round it all. The portal lists a café or restaurant, a shop, WC and parking at the site, which is why the 8-hour day puts lunch at Lindos. Two hours and more on the road for one site is a fair question; the 4-hour tour is the answer for those who say no, and the Old Town fills a morning on its own.

What changes with the season on Rhodes?

The hours, the Tuesdays and the ships. From April to October every site is open daily into the evening, the walls can be walked at midday on weekdays, and the Palace keeps 20:00 as its closing hour to the end of October. From November to March the sites close at 15:30 and all day on Tuesdays, the walls walk closes, and Monte Smith stays open with free access; a winter day with us therefore starts early and keeps the Old Town, whose lanes have no closing hour, for the afternoon. The port publishes no schedule of calls, so we cannot say which days bring the most ships to the Old Town; the Port Fund’s own figure is a capacity of five cruise ships in a day. Below, month by month: the climate normals of the Rodos station of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service for 1991 to 2020 and the sunset on the 15th.

How does a day with Greece Private Tours work here?

You send a date, a party size and where you start; the site takes no payment. The office confirms by email, you pay the driver on the day and the tickets at the gates. The vehicle follows the party: a sedan for up to three, a minivan for four to seven, a minibus or a coach above that, a child seat on request at no charge. The order of the stops is yours to change on the road, and the Old Town is walked while the driver waits with the vehicle outside the walls. A booking cancels free of charge up to 72 hours before the start. For a day of your own, the custom tour form takes any list of stops and a number of hours and the office answers with a price from the same rate card; the day builder sets our five Rhodes stops in any order with the routed legs between them; and a cruise guest with more than one of our ports on the itinerary can ask for one plan for every call. Greece Private Tours has run private days since 1995; what a private tour is has a page of its own.
