Santorini private sunset tour with winery stops (3 hours)

Car or boat?

Car. Most of what sells under “Santorini sunset tour” is a catamaran or a sailing boat; this page is the other thing, three hours in a private vehicle with one of our own drivers, to two wineries, the second on the caldera rim in time for the sunset. Your group has the vehicle to itself, the driver waits at both wineries, and the evening ends at your hotel or at the top of the cable car. How do the three hours go?

An hour at the first winery, then 10 min and 6.2 km without traffic, routed on OpenStreetMap, to the second, on the caldera rim, where we plan 75 minutes across the sunset; the way back to the top station of the cable car is 12 min and 9 km. That is 22 min on the road and two and a quarter hours at the tables; the rest of the three hours is the drive from your hotel to the first winery, which depends on where you stay. The wineries are confirmed with your booking, and the second is always on the rim.

What time is the sunset, and when do we start?

The start is set from the sunset of your date, so that you reach the rim about an hour before the sun goes down and leave after it. The table is computed for the coordinates of the rim itself; the confirmation names your pickup time.

What about the crowds in Oia?

This tour does not go to Oia for the sunset, and that is the point: the terrace on the rim has the same sun and its own tables. If you want Oia itself at sunset, book the car and driver by the hour for the late afternoon instead; the Oia page prints the sunset by date and where the vehicle waits.

What does it cost, and what is extra?

From 500 EUR per group, as the ticket above prints it from the office’s rate card; the office confirms the total for your party and the vehicle it needs by email, and nothing is paid on the site. The price covers the vehicle, the driver and the three hours. What the wineries charge for their tastings is not printed on this page: ask when you book, and the confirmation states what is and is not covered. Steps, shade and toilets

No official source states the steps down to the terraces, the toilets or the shade at either winery, so we print nothing about them; ask your driver, who parks and waits at both and knows the way in. The vehicle is air-conditioned with bottled water in it.

Where do we meet, and can cruise guests do it?

At your hotel or villa, anywhere on the island. Cruise guests can only do it when the ship stays into the evening: the driver meets you at the exit of the cable car’s top station with a sign with your name, the evening ends there for the way down, and every cruise day ends 90 minutes before all-aboard.
