Cruise ships off Santorini land you by tender at the old port of Fira; the cable car, 587 steps or a mule take you up to the town, and Greece Private Tours waits at the exit of the cable car's top station with a sign with your name. Since 2026, 3 in 10 guests of a large ship land at Athinios instead, where the vehicle waits on the quay.

At the exit of the top station of the cable car, on the town side, holding a board with your name on it, from the time we agreed. The station is the cable car’s upper end on the cliff at Fira, marked by the pin under Open in Google Maps below; come out of the cabin, walk through the exit, and the driver is there. If you do not see the sign, do not walk into the town: stay by the exit and message us on WhatsApp at +30 6944803339 or ring the office on +30 22860 28115, and we put you together.
By tender to the old port in the Bay of Fira, where the ships lie on buoys or at anchor, then up the cliff. The cable car takes three minutes, a one-way ticket is 10 EUR (checked 8 Oct 2026, santorinicablecar.gr) and the reduced fare 5 EUR (checked 8 Oct 2026, santorinicablecar.gr), with children under six free; cabins leave every 20 minutes from April to October and the line carries 1,200 people an hour, so on a day with several ships the wait can be long. The port authority’s other ways up are the 587 steps and a mule on the same path. Fares, hours by month and the queue are in the cable-car guide; for guests who cannot queue, a reserved boat from the tender pier to Athinios puts you in the vehicle without the climb.
Then the meeting point moves, not the day. Since 2026 a ship certified for more than 1,000 passengers lands seven in ten of its guests at the old port and three in ten at Athinios, the ferry port to the south, and the ship decides who goes where. If your tender heads for Athinios, message us and the driver waits on the quay there instead; every Santorini tour lists both points, and the cruise port page carries the port facts with their sources.
From your ship’s scheduled arrival, allowing for the tender and the queue: take one of the first tenders, and we let the wait at the bottom eat into the margin rather than into the tour. Every cruise day ends 90 minutes before all-aboard, and the booking form asks for the ship’s name, its arrival and its all-aboard time, so the day is planned from them. In the afternoon the queue forms again at this station for the way down; leave the last stop with the margin in hand.
All of our Santorini tours: the 4-hour tour to Oia, Firostefani, Pyrgos and a beach or a winery; the 5-hour tour with Akrotiri and the south; the full day; the sunset tour and the photo-spots tour; and the car and driver by the hour for a call of any length. Each card below prints the call it needs, its hours plus the margin, and the one-day-in-Santorini guide works a quiet day and a busy one through. The photograph above is ours, a ship at anchor in the caldera below the cliff: that cliff is what the cable car climbs.
