What fits in five hours?

Eight stops and 129 min of driving without traffic, routed on OpenStreetMap from the top of the cable car: a 10-minute photo stop at the blue-domed church of Firostefani, 2 min and 0.9 km away; 40 minutes in Oia, 13 min and 10.2 km along the rim; ten minutes in Pyrgos after 25 min and 21.2 km across the island; 15 minutes at the Prophet Elias monastery on the island’s highest point, 12 min and 4.3 km up the hill; 40 minutes inside Akrotiri, 26 min and 13.2 km to the south; ten minutes at Red Beach, 8 min and 3.5 km on; 20 minutes on the black sand of Perivolos, 18 min and 9.5 km along the coast; and 20 minutes at a winery with a caldera view, 13 min and 8.2 km back up, before the 12 min and 9 km return to Fira. That is 2 h 45 min at the stops and 2 h 9 min on the road, with six minutes to spare, so the short stops are photo stops; for an hour in Oia and an hour at Akrotiri take the full day, and for a shorter day the 4-hour tour keeps to the north.

What does the driver do while we are inside Akrotiri?

Parks and waits outside the site for the 40 minutes, then takes you on to Red Beach. The entrance fee, 20 EUR (checked 8 Oct 2026, hh.gr), is paid at the gate and is not in the tour price; tickets are timed, for a chosen date and slot, so book one for about two and a half hours after your start or ask us to name the slot with the confirmation. Access to the official Digital Guide app comes with the ticket. Our drivers drive, wait and give practical orientation; guiding inside an archaeological site is the work of state-licensed guides under Law 5121/2024, and one is added on request, quoted separately. Ancient Thera, the hilltop city above Kamari, is not on this 5-hour day: it needs over an hour with its drive and closes at 15:30, so it joins the full day as a swap for the beach or a car and driver by the hour.

Steps, shade, toilets and lunch

What the sources state: for cruise guests the climb comes before the tour, the cable car or the 587 steps from the old port, on the port authority’s own count; Akrotiri is visited under a bioclimatic shelter, so the one long walk of the day is in the shade, and its official amenities list names a WC, a café and parking. For the steps in the lanes of Oia and Pyrgos, the shade at the monastery and the toilets at the beaches, no official page says anything, so ask your driver; that orientation is part of the job. Lunch is not planned into five hours: the winery or Perivolos becomes a quick lunch at your own expense if you say so when you book, and its minutes come out of the five hours while the driver waits.

What does it cost for our group?

400 EUR for up to three guests in a sedan and 500 EUR for four to seven in a minivan: 125 EUR each for four, 71 EUR each for seven; from eight guests the rate is per person in a minibus, as the table above prints it from the office’s rate card, and the price guide sets it beside the other durations. Paid on the day to the driver, after the office confirms your request by email; nothing is paid on the site. Extra and paid on the spot: the Akrotiri ticket, a cable car ticket for cruise guests at 10 EUR (checked 8 Oct 2026, santorinicablecar.gr) one way, the tasting if you take it, and anything you eat.

Where do we meet, and does it fit a cruise call?

At the exit of the cable car’s top station for cruise guests, on the quay at Athinios for ferry arrivals and for the guests a large ship lands there, in the arrivals area of the airport, or at your hotel or villa, with a sign with your name each time. From a ship the tour needs a call of five hours plus the margin we keep before all-aboard, and the booking form checks your ship’s times against it; the cruise port page explains the two landing points and the cable-car guide the queue.
