Shore excursions from Nafplio
Most cruise ships calling at Nafplio anchor off the port and land their guests by tender: the Municipal Port Fund lists 126 calls for 2026, 97 of them at the anchorage and 29 alongside the quay beside the old town. Mycenae and Epidaurus are each 30 minutes away by road, says the Ministry. Greece Private Tours builds a private day from the pier on request, priced per group.

Plan around your ship
Type the two times from your ship's daily programme. The list keeps the 90-minute margin before all-aboard and prints what is left to spare.
Your ship's programme has the times that count. The port publishes its own list of calls: Cruise arrivals 2026 at the port of Nafplio, published by the Municipal Port Fund, one line per call with alongside or anchorage (portofnafplio.gr, checked 14 Oct 2026).
Port logistics
Where ships land
- Two quays of 840 m in all with 6.5 m of water, ships up to 180 m long, 32 m wide and 6.3 m of draught, no passenger terminal; a compulsory anchorage 1.5 nautical miles from the quay with 10 m of water; clearance of 30 minutes for a call from inside the Schengen area and 60 minutes from outside it, every passport checked and stamped, passengers ashore with the ship's ID; no pilotage or tugs; car parking; 51,551 cruise passengers a year (the port's characteristics page on the Hellenic Ports Association's cruise portal)
- The 2026 arrivals list of the Municipal Port Fund of Nafplio: 126 calls by 42 ships from 27 January to 21 December, each marked alongside or at the anchorage; 97 calls at the anchorage, by ships from 105 to 333 m long, and 29 alongside, by ships of 20 to 142 m; June, July and August with 18 calls each and October with 21
- The port lies on the northeast side of the Akronafplia peninsula, tangential to the old city: a jetty in the shape of a Π with an entrance 107 m wide, guarded under the ISPS code, open 24 hours all year, with jetties of about 420 m taking two cruise ships up to 200 m long at a time; a passenger terminal inside the port area is planned (the port's profile on the same portal)
- Cruise fee per passenger landing at a Greek port other than Mykonos and Santorini: 5 euros from 1 June to 30 September, 3 euros in April, May and October, 1 euro from November to March; the cruise line pays it to the State, nothing is paid at the quay (Law 5162/2024, article 27)

Ask for one quote for every callIs Nafplio a tender port?
For most ships, yes. The Municipal Port Fund of Nafplio publishes its 2026 arrivals as a list with one line per call, and the list marks each call alongside or at the anchorage: of 126 calls by 42 ships between 27 January and 21 December, 97 are at the anchorage and 29 alongside. The alongside calls are small ships, 142 metres at most on the list, and the anchored ones run from 105 to 333 metres; the port’s characteristics page on the Hellenic Ports Association’s cruise portal gives the quays as two, 840 metres in all with 6.5 metres of water, for ships up to 180 metres, with no passenger terminal and a compulsory anchorage 1.5 nautical miles out, while the Fund’s own page on the association’s site allows 200 metres. The Fund’s administration sets the berth of every ship, by its announcement, so the ship’s own programme is the word on whether you step onto the quay or into a tender, and the ticket above prints the port’s facts with the date we read them.
How far are Mycenae and Epidaurus from the Nafplio cruise port?
Half an hour each, by the Ministry’s directions: its pages for Mycenae and for the sanctuary of Asclepius at Epidaurus both count 30 minutes from Nafplio by car. Routed on OpenStreetMap without traffic from the port itself, Mycenae is 36 min and 26 km and the theatre of Epidaurus 40 min and 27 km, in opposite directions, so a day that holds both drives from one to the other between them. Nearer, the Palamidi fortress above the town is 7 min and 4 km by the road up, or an hour on foot from Syntagma Square by the portal’s count, and the square itself 2 min and 1 km from the port, which the portal’s profile calls tangential to the old city.
Where does the driver wait?
At the landward exit of the port area, with your name on a sign. The port lies on the northeast side of the Akronafplia peninsula, a jetty in the shape of a Π with an entrance 107 metres wide, by the port’s profile; it is fenced and guarded under the ISPS code, and no passenger terminal exists yet, the profile naming one as a plan, so the driver waits outside the exit and not at the gangway or the tender steps. No official page says where the tenders land inside the port or how far the gate is, so we print no minutes for that walk; the Fund lists chemical toilets, two of them for disabled visitors, parking and disabled spaces among its services at the port. Tell us the ship’s name and its times when you book, and the driver is at the exit from the first tender; a change on the day is one message to the driver, whose phone and WhatsApp are on your confirmation.
When should we leave the ship?
With the first tender you can get, because the queue for it is the one delay the port does not publish. The characteristics page puts the clearance at 30 minutes for a call from inside the Schengen area and 60 minutes from outside it, with every passport checked and stamped and passengers going ashore on the ship’s ID; after that, the tenders run at the ship’s pace. Mycenae and Epidaurus open at 08:00 in summer and keep the last admission 20 minutes before closing, so an early call loses nothing at the gates. Our day ends 90 minutes before all-aboard, and the booking form measures that margin from the hour you give it, so on a tender day type the last tender as your all-aboard; the Fund’s list gives the hours of every call, and the planner above links it.
Which tours fit a Nafplio port call?
None of our fixed tours starts at the pier yet: the Mycenae, Epidaurus and Nafplio day is a 10-hour day from Athens or Piraeus that reaches the town last, after the Corinth Canal and the two sites, and makes no sense from a ship already moored below Palamidi. From the pier the day is built on request through the custom tour form: type the hours of your call and the stops you want, and the office answers with a day and its price, per group. The routed legs say what fits. Mycenae alone, with the Lion Gate, the walls and the tomb of Atreus, is a 4-hour day with time for the old town after; Mycenae and Epidaurus together, with the hour each the Athens day plans at the gates and the drive between them, fit a 5-hour day without lunch; the theatre alone leaves the afternoon for the town. The planner above says so too when you type your times: no tour from Nafplio yet, and a link to ask for a day that fits.
What do the tickets cost?
Two Ministry sites, one ticket each, paid at the gates with the amount and the date we read it: 20 EUR (checked 14 Oct 2026, hh.gr) at Mycenae, where the portal’s ticket line covers the Tholos Tomb of Atreus, the archaeological site and the museum that stands within it, and 20 EUR (checked 14 Oct 2026, hh.gr) at Epidaurus for the site and its museum; reduced tickets are 10 EUR (checked 14 Oct 2026, hh.gr) and 10 EUR (checked 14 Oct 2026, hh.gr), and admission is free on the days the entrance-fees guide lists. In the town, the Palamidi fortress is 20 EUR (checked 14 Oct 2026, hh.gr), and the Archaeological Museum on Syntagma Square has a ticket of its own, which the portal prints on the museum’s page. Your ship also pays the State a cruise fee for every passenger it lands at Nafplio, highest from June to September and lowest in winter, under Law 5162/2024; the line pays it, nothing is paid at the quay, and the ticket above gives the figures. A driver inside the sites is not a guide: the driver-or-guide guide explains who may guide at Mycenae and who may not.
Can we see Nafplio on our own from the ship?
Yes, and well. The old town begins at the port: the portal’s destination page for Nafplio places the Archaeological Museum, the Bank of Greece building and the memorial of Ypsilantis on Syntagma Square, the Bourtzi fortress on its islet in the middle of the harbour, and the Psaromachalas quarter of the 13th century at the foot of Akronafplia. The museum, in the Venetian armoury on the square, keeps the hours of the Ministry’s page, 08:30 to 15:30 with Tuesdays closed all year. Above it all stands Palamidi, the Venetian fortress finished in 1714 on a hill 216 metres high, climbed from Arvanitia by its 999 steps or reached by car in 10 minutes from the centre, by the portal, which lists a café or restaurant, toilets and parking there and prints these hours by period:
- 1 Apr to 1 May: 08:00 to 19:00, last entry 18:40
- 2 May to 31 Aug: 08:00 to 20:00, last entry 19:40
- 1 Sep to 15 Sep: 08:00 to 19:30, last entry 19:10
- 16 Sep to 30 Sep: 08:00 to 19:00, last entry 18:40
- 1 Oct to 15 Oct: 08:00 to 18:30, last entry 18:10
- 16 Oct to 31 Oct: 08:00 to 18:00, last entry 17:40
- 1 Nov to 31 Mar: 08:30 to 15:30, last entry 15:10
Checked 14 Oct 2026, hh.gr.
What a car adds is the plain of Argos: Mycenae 36 min away and Epidaurus 40 min, neither of them reachable on foot from a tender, with the driver waiting at the parking the portal lists at both while you are inside.
What if we are late for the ship?
On a tender day the deadline is the last tender, so the day is planned to it, with the margin before it that the office keeps and a driver who shortens a stop rather than the margin; the port is 36 min from Mycenae and 40 min from Epidaurus by the routed road, and the town, where a day from the pier ends, is at the gate. We do not promise the return to the ship; we promise the plan agreed in writing and a phone that is answered. If the ship moves from the anchorage to the quay, or changes its tender times, write as soon as you know, and the driver moves with it.
Where we meet you
Your driver waits at the landward exit of the port area, with a sign with your name. The port of Nafplio lies on the northeast side of the Akronafplia peninsula, beside the old town, and has no passenger terminal; it is fenced and guarded under the ISPS code, so the driver waits outside its exit and not at the gangway or the tender steps. Most ships anchor off the port and land their guests by tender (97 of the 126 calls listed by the Municipal Port Fund for 2026), ships of up to about 140 metres come alongside, and the Fund sets the berth for each call: give us the ship's name and its times when you book, and the driver is at the exit from the first tender.
